Increase Federally Funded Residency Positions
Tell Your Lawmakers to Support the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act
This year, the highest number of psychiatry residency positions were offered and 99.8% of the positions were filled! More medical students want to join the psychiatric profession, but we don’t have enough residency positions available. Moreover, psychiatry, as well as medicine in general, is facing a workforce shortage. The Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act would address the workforce shortage by raising the number of Medicare-supported GME positions by 2,000 per year for seven years. Ultimately, creating 14,000 new GME positions.
