None hurt in Emeryville train derailment

April 19-- Apr. 19--EMERYVILLE -- Police and rail authorities are responding to a reported train derailment along tracks, authorities said Sunday.

At 1:47 p.m., a Union Pacific train derailed off railroad tracks next to Powell and Horton streets near the Emeryville Amtrak station.

No cause was immediately available, and there were no reports of injury or any hazardous-materials spills.

Emeryville police advised drivers and visitors to avoid railroad crossings along Shellmound Street at and north of 65th Street, and initially referred requests for information to Union Pacific.

In a statement, UP spokesman Tim McMahan said six rail cars upright, made up of three empty tank cars and three refrigerated box cars, were involved. A cause is under investigation, he said.
