CRNA Scope Expansion Vote Expected Soon - Contact Your Senator Today
Despite strong opposition from the physician community, on June 10, 2021, the Senate Health Policy and Human Services Committee passed House Bill 4359. This dangerous legislation would expand the scope of practice for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and under the bill, nurses who administer anesthetics would no longer be required to be supervised by a physician and would be solely responsible for the entire anesthesia plan and the administration of related care.
A vote on House Bill 4359 could take place in the Michigan Senate as soon as next week, and it is imperative that our Senators hear from the physicians in their communities about the dangers of this bill. Please contact your Senator today and urge them to preserve safe patient care by opposing House Bill 4359.
Further, if the past year has shown us anything, it is that we need more influence in the process that shapes health care policy. As physicians, we simply cannot afford to be caught sitting on the political sidelines. While our voices are our most important tool in defeating dangerous legislation, your involvement with MDPAC is also integral to advancing vital health care reforms, as well as preventing costly and unnecessary legislation. Now is the time to step onto the field and play a key role in supporting medicine. Please consider supporting MDPAC today so we can keep fighting for tomorrow.
