Michigan - SB23

Restrict school millage elections

January 13, 2021

This legislation would require all property tax millage proposals to only be placed on the November general election ballot.  If this bill is passed, the law would go into effect January 1, 2022.

Our Position

MASB opposes this legislation because it places unnecessary restrictions on when districts can ask the voters for addtional revenue.   Furthermore, by placing school millages on the November ballot, there is concern that these proposals will get little attention compared to other statewide and local elections.
