Issue Background

Immigrant Rights and Racial Justice

"We are a nation of immigrants. We recognize the continuing contributions of immigrants to our communities’ economic and cultural well-being."

FCLCA's Policy Statement on Human Rights

We support state actions and legislation to protect the rights of immigrants and to promote racial justice. We oppose any efforts to compromise human rights and religious and civil liberties.

In 2020, FCLCA worked in coalition to successfully accomplish the expansion of the California Earned Income Tax Credit to workers who pay taxes with ITINs (Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers), a group that includes many immigrants, and their children, who are usually U.S. citizens. They had previously been excluded from CalEITC and the Young Child Tax Credit, which are effective ways to address poverty.
