E15 and Higher Blends

Consumers deserve choice at the pump; ACE urges Congress to avoid impeding progress towards E15 and higher blends of ethanol.

E15 and Higher Blends

  • E15 is a clean, safe and low-cost fuel which can be used in nine of every 10 cars on the road today.
  • E15 is currently available at approximately 1,628 retail locations in 30 states.
  • More than 60 million cars and light trucks in the last five model years are approved to use E15 under their auto manufacturers warranty.
  • At least 10 million additional E15 vehicles will be added in 2019 and every year after that.
  • 93% of MY2019 cars and light trucks are built and warrantied to use E15.
  • The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved E15 in vehicles built in or after 2001.

Statistics show that demand for E85 from existng FFVs in California is booming and well-documented. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) recently confirmed in a letter signed by the Chief of the Project Planning and Management Branch that E85 use in California has tripled over a five year period from 2012 to 2016:

  • 2012: 6,482,868 MGY
  • 2013: 8,799,981 MGY
  • 2014: 11,066,428 MGY
  • 2015: 14,773,124 MGY
  • 2016: 18,679,904 MGY

And the E15 market continues to grow substanially as the fuel is now available in over 1,600 stations in 30 states. And that market will continue to grow now that President Donald Trump has given the thumbs up to year-round E15.

That’s good news for retailers everywhere.
