Protect Survivors of Sexual Assault

Students Deserve Better

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently proposed to change the rules that accompany the civil rights law known as “Title IX” that prohibits sex discrimination in schools (both K12 and higher education). One way that students experience sex discrimination is through a school’s nonresponse or bad response to sexual violence. The proposed changes to the rule would make it harder for students who experience sexual harassment to report it, would limit who students can report sexual harassment to, and would allow schools to disregard sexual violence off campus. Additionally, the proposed changes would allow schools to hide the fact that they discriminate based on sex because of their religious affiliation, potentially allowing students to expose themselves to discrimination without their knowledge. HOWEVER, these changes are only PROPOSED, which means you can SPEAK OUT NOW to tell Secretary DeVos not to change the rules and protect ALL STUDENTS from sex discrimination.
