As with almost everything this past year, advocacy looked different in 2020. And we know that speaking up for kids will continue to be different in 2021, in ways we can’t yet fully anticipate. What we do know is that our advocacy mission here at Children’s Hospital Colorado will not change — we will still strive to represent the needs of kids and their families, no matter what the new year holds.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we hope you’ll join us in advocating for effective public policy at all levels of government. Through direct lobbying, grassroots and coalition organizing, and traditional and social media, we will partner with you to represent the interests of our patients and families, as well as the health and wellbeing of all children.
Colorado lawmakers begin their 2021 session today, though they’ll only meet briefly to swear in new members and address urgent business. Their plan is to reconvene on February 16 to carry out the rest of the lawmaking term. There’s a lot to do this year! Click here to learn more and read our full report on this year’s policy and advocacy priorities, including:
- Fighting for healthcare programs and behavioral health in the state budget
- Protecting coverage and access for all children
- Improving behavioral health services for kids
- Addressing health disparities
- Ensuring a strong start for our youngest Coloradans
- Continuing to push for strong vaccine policies
- Supporting safe back-to-school efforts
- Confronting tobacco and nicotine addiction in teens
- Strengthening the healthcare workforce
We’ll also work at the federal level to press Congress for additional COVID-19 funding relief for Colorado, defend and expand Medicaid and CHIP, advocate for the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act, enhance behavioral health efforts and advance critical childhood research.
We can only achieve these priorities with the ongoing support of and partnership with advocates like you! Together, we can give a voice to Colorado’s kids and families, lifting them up to achieve their highest potential.
