Pennsylvania

R.T. Licensure Goal

The Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Societies of Radiologic Technologists are collaborating with the ASRT, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologists and Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography to draft a licensure bill for introduction in 2021. The bill’s intent is to protect the citizens of Pennsylvania from unqualified personnel operating medical imaging and radiation therapy equipment.

Current standards for personnel performing medical imaging examinations and radiation therapy treatments  are scattered throughout Pennsylvania statutes and regulations. Currently, there is little consistency in how or in which situations or settings these laws are applied.

Licensure will create education, certification and competency assessment standards for radiographers, radiologist assistants, radiation therapists, nuclear medicine technologists, magnetic resonance technologists, diagnostic medical sonographers and limited x-ray machine operators.

Many dedicated Pennsylvania R.T. advocates have put in hours of hard work drafting this legislation and working with state lawmakers.
