HHS Notice of Enforcement Discretion for HIPAA during COVID-19 Emergency

The Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Civil Rights (OCR) announced that it is exercising its discretion in how it applies the Privacy Rule under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This action will waive sanctions and penalties against HIPAA covered entities or their business associates for disclosure of protected health information (PHI) in certain circumstances during the Public Health Emergency.
