Advance The Massage Therapist Licensure Rule!
Dear AMTA-IN Chapter Members:
In 2017, the Indiana General Assembly passed and the Governor signed HEA 1289, which transitions the profession of massage therapy from certification to licensure. To implement this law, the Professional Licensing Agency (PLA) must finalize a rule with further guidance for massage therapists. The draft rule was approved by the Massage Therapy Board in July of 2019, but since that time the PLA has taken no official, public action to implement this rule. It has now been almost four years since the passage of the original law, and the delay in implementing this rule has caused confusion and concern throughout our profession.
We would like everyone to contact your State Senator as well as State Representative and ask them to urge the Professional Licensing Agency to complete the massage therapy licensure rule!
A sample email for you to use is below, but please feel free to add your own personal story of how this delay has affected you!
Thank you for your support of massage therapy!
