Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is the use of an anti-HIV medication by HIV negative individuals to prevent future acquisition of HIV. Currently, only one medication, Truvada, has been approved to use as PrEP by the FDA. When taken consistently on a daily basis, PrEP (in the form of Truvada) has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection by up to 92%.
AIDS United supports efforts to expand access to all appropriate HIV-prevention tools. We believe PrEP is a critically important prevention tool for many people faced with substantial risk of infection. AIDS United will advocate full and accurate information about PrEP and how to access it for individuals who can benefit from PrEP.
