ACP Action Alert: Urge Your Members of Congress to Support Internal Medicine Physician Practices in Next COVID-19 Bill!

The U.S. House and Senate are in final negotiations for yet another legislative package designed to aid this struggling nation through the COVID-19 pandemic. With the House Democratic leadership set to unveil and possibly vote on the package this week, ACP has been advocating diligently with both chambers to advance our priorities.

One of ACP’s top priorities is for Congress to provide additional and dedicated funding for internal medicine physician practices, and especially primary care, to keep them from closing their doors.  We are aware that even with the programs Congress has already enacted, and other measures taken by HHS and CMS, many of your practices are seeing so few patients that you may be weeks away from having to close up.  Congress needs to hear from you about how important primary care is, particularly during this pandemic, and why it is critical for the federal government to provide sufficient financial support for practices like yours to survive.

On May 7, in a letter to congressional leaders, ACP shared our recommendations for 7 priorities that should be addressed in the next COVID-19 legislation to not only sustain the health care and economic needs of our nation, but to directly support the practices of internists and other physicians providing primary and comprehensive care. We appreciate that Congress has enacted four major legislative packages to address this unprecedented public health crisis, including help for practices, but more still needs to be done.

Action Requested: Please call your legislators, by following the prompts below, and urge them to include, at a minimum, ACP’s recommendations to help keep internal medicine physician practices open during this unprecedented emergency. Time is of the essence so we have provided a sample call script at the link below, which can be customized based on your own experiences.

Before you can take action, we need to learn more about you.
