Tell your Senators to support the Violence Against Women Act! We encourage you to personalize this message to let your Senators know why this is so important to you and your patients.
Since 1994, VAWA has provided critical support and protections for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence such as funding for transitional housing and emergency shelters and access to medical and legal counseling. Thanks to your incredible advocacy, the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed H.R. 1585, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, which would reauthorize and strengthen this important legislation. Now, this bill is headed to the Senate and we need your help to ensure that every Senator knows that ob-gyns support a strong VAWA reauthorization bill including vital updates included in the House-passed bill!
Intimate partner violence is most prevalent among women of reproductive age and often begins or escalates during a woman’s pregnancy, potentially affecting more patients than preeclampsia or gestational diabetes. ACOG is committed to taking an active role to combat this public health epidemic. As ob-gyns, we are on the front lines confronting violence at a time when the health of pregnant women and new mothers are at increased risk of violence.
Email your Senators today and urge them support a strong VAWA reauthorization bill!
