May 18--An SUV plunged 70 feet from a Norfolk Southern Railroad bridge spanning the Ohio River in Pittsburgh on Thursday, killing at least one occupant, authorities said.

"It was not a Norfolk Southern vehicle. Nobody from Norfolk Southern was inside the vehicle," said railroad spokesman David Pidgeon.

He said two main line tracks cross the bridge and its deck runs 70 feet above the water surface.

Pidgeon referred questions about the incident to Pittsburgh police and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The SUV was found in the water along Beaver Avenue, near the Three Rivers Trail in Pittsburgh's Marshall Shadeland neighborhood.

A witness told WPXI-TV that he saw the SUV go off the bridge and into the river below.

A cat that first responders believe was also in the SUV survived.
