Impact on Meal Applications and Benefit Eligibility
Approximately half (3400) of our Free meal benefit students are Directly certified. Any change to the eligibility for SNAP may directly affect that number causing a significant increase in the number of families required to fill out the application for free or reduced meal benefits. This in turn will create an additional administrative burden in staffing time to process the additional applications. It also increases the risk of families in need not receiving the benefits they are eligible for. This, due to inability to complete the application for various reasons. This will add to the unpaid meal charge issue that is of growing concern to many School districts nationwide.
