Negative Impact on Thousands of Students
The proposed rule would prevent thousands of children in our district from receiving healthy school meals at no cost to them, which are currently made available to them through CEP. If we did not participate in CEP, unpaid meal charges would become an issue, as well as additional administrative costs associated with processing meal applications. A decrease in participation would have a negative effect on our revenue and force us to reduce/limit labor, purchase lower grade/quality of food and it overall decrease the impact of the school food program. School Nutrition Programs play a role in the success of the school environment. We all know hungry kids cannot learn and have higher incidences of behavior issues.
The Proposed Rule does not benefit ALL students. As school nutrition professionals, we are here to serve ALL students.
