We are extremely concerned over this proposal. Many of our families would now be required to apply for students meals, and may not do so in a timely manner leading to a lapse in benefits or they may not apply at all. This will result in meals lost to the students and/or inappropriate meal charges.
This would also have a direct impact on our CEP calculations resulting in schools losing the program and reduce participation in our program while increasing unpaid meal charges.
Lastly, more applications to process will directly impact our administrative staff requiring longer work hours due to the increased work load. We are not permitted by our District to hire any additional staff members for our department. We are limited to the staff we have now. Either staff will work extra hours for no additional pay or other projects will be eliminated due to no time to complete them.
