Academy supports SB 53, naloxone bill

The American Academy of Pain Management and SPPAN support SB 53, to appropriately increase access to naloxone.  See part of the letter below, and you can read the full letter here.

"Dear Senator Lundberg and Members of the Committee:

I am writing on behalf of the American Academy of Pain Management in support of SB 53, which specifies that licensed prescribers may, in good faith, prescribe, and licensed dispensers may dispense, an opioid antagonist (naloxone) to an individual who is at risk of experiencing an opioid-related overdose or to a family member, friend, or other person in a position to assist an at-risk individual.  The bill further allows opioid antagonists to be prescribed and dispensed to an employee or volunteer of a harm reduction organization or to a first responder.  We believe that passage of this bill is a vital step in ensuring access to, and proper utilization of, an important safety tool that will undoubtedly prevent tragic deaths from unintended opioid overdoses."
