Improving oral health in Massachusetts and protecting the dental profession are not spectator sports. The strength of the Massachusetts Dental Society lies in YOU! Our nearly 5,000 members who are on the front lines delivering care every day. We need you to bring your passion, your voices, and your energy to Beacon Hill. Only you can explain the importance of oral health to our legislators!
Morning Briefing Session:
The MDS-PAC is pleased to present the fourth annual Morning Session at Beacon Hill Day. Join us at the Omni Parker House to learn more about the exciting campaigns getting underway here in Massachusetts.
Following the Morning Session, the MDS governmental affairs team will explain the society's legislative agenda and effective techniques for communicating with legislators. After this briefing you will be prepared to explain the issues facing oral health to your legislators. Here's what's topping this year's agenda.
- H.981/S.422 - If enacted, this bill will prevent dental benefit companies from setting fees for non-covered services.
- H.274/S.998 - If enacted, this bill will create an "advanced dental hygiene practitioner" (ADHP). According to the bill, an ADHP would be permitted to extract teeth, fill cavities, perform pulpotomies on primary teeth, hire and supervise dental assistants, and bill MassHealth, among a long list of "allowable" duties. The MDS believes that this isn't the right issue, the right time, or the right model.
Interaction With Your Legislators:
The Massachusetts Dental Society staff will assist you in scheduling an appointment to meet with legislators in their offices. To schedule your meeting simply complete the registration form, return it to MDS, and someone from our office will begin the process of scheduling your appointment. These meetings will ensure that all legislators hear from their local dentists about the importance of oral health.
Once you have completed your State House visits, please return to the Omni Parker House for a luncheon while listening to our keynote speaker, TBA
