Advanced Dental Hygiene Practitioner (ADHP):
The state hygienist association again pushed legislation to create a new level of practitioner. Without the direct supervision of a dentist, an ADHP would be allowed to extract teeth, place temporary crowns, and much more! Just recently the legislature sent this legislation study, which killed the bill for the remainder of this legislative session.
Currently, dental benefits companies are allowed to set fees for services for which they do not pay providers. The MDS has been working closely with the legislature in order to stop these unfair non-covered services policies. Recently, this legislation advanced to the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing. The new bill number is S.2156. Click here to view the new issue paper.
