NJ-RAMP and SAM Action urge you to write your state legislators and Governor Murphy to oppose the legalization/commercialization of recreational marijuana in New Jersey.
Note: Please make sure to use your personal email and home address in the form.
Following the example of what has happened in other states that have legalized, the legalization of recreational marijuana will create a Big Tobacco-type industry that will hurt children, families and communities. In states that have already legalized the drug, there has been an increase in drugged driving crashes and youth marijuana use.
Since Colorado legalized marijuana, first time youth pot use by youth is now #1 in the nation and more than 50% higher than the national average. More minority kids are being arrested for pot in CO than before legalization.
As evidenced in other states, legalization of recreational marijuana will impose significant costs on New Jersey taxpayers, resulting from workplace losses, car crashes, lost tourism revenue, administrative enforcement, and a multitude of other issues. And there are so many more costs we cannot even begin to quantify. This includes increased use of other drugs, greater marijuana use among children, controlling an expanded black market, sales to minors, second-hand pot smoke, and other issues.
Please oppose the legalization of recreational marijuana in New Jersey. Don’t let Big Marijuana profit at the expense of our communities and families.
