Issue Background

Improving Student Learning

  • Provide a 3 percent increase each year of the biennium on regular education funding.
  • Allocate an additional $25 million each of the next two years to provide supplemental assistance to students needing additional help vs. expending funds to take over schools.
  • Lower the compulsory school age to 5 years old.
  • Indiana has the fourth highest number of enrolled students per teacher in the country. Provide resources to all schools so students have more one-on-one attention and a well-rounded curriculum.
  • Indiana has the fourth lowest perstudent expenditures in the country. Investing in our community-based public schools first, must be our first priority
