Federal - S 2066

Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

Introduced

September 22, 2015

Description

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would amend the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act to establish penalties for individuals who violate the latter measure. The bill would require any medical personnel present when a baby is born alive following an abortion or attempted abortion to provide the same level of care to that child as they would to any other child of the same gestational age. The bill would also require that a born-alive abortion survivor be transferred to a hospital and that anyone with knowledge of a violation of the law report it.

Commentary

Senator Ben Sasse: "This law would simply ensure that babies who survive abortions get a fighting chance by requiring medical attention that would be offered to any other premature baby at the same age. No life is disposable. No child deserves to have her life ended cold and alone—struggling for breath—in an abortion clinic.

"We Americans frequently cheer for the vulnerable. We fight for the minority. We protect the powerless from the powerful. Baby girls and boys are fighting for their lives. I encourage [you] to fight for them and support S. 2066, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act."
