According to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System, an estimated 1,720 children died from abuse or neglect in the United States in 2017. Sadly, this abuse and neglect affected our most vulnerable little ones, with 72% of these deaths involving children younger than three, and 50% involving infants younger than a year old.The bipartisan Early Detection to Stop Infant Abuse & Prevent Fatalities Act, authored by Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin, will provide funding for medical providers, child welfare professionals and others to develop training and best practices to identify and respond to the earliest signs of physical abuse in infants. The bill was just introduced in Congress and we’re asking our CAN advocates to thank Senator Baldwin and encourage their legislators to co-sponsor the bill. Advocacy is important at this stage to ensure we get strong, bipartisan support for the bill to move forward. Take action today!
