BRIEF: 2,000 Catholic families have new $13.8 million Ladera Ranch church following dedication by Bishop Kevin Vann
Nov. 13--LADERA RANCH -- More than 2,000 Catholic families in South Orange County got a brand new church, which according to diocesan officials is a rare occurrence anywhere in the country.
On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 11, the Most Rev. Kevin Vann, Bishop of Orange, celebrated the dedication of the $13.8 million, 18,352-square-foot church building at 1600 Corporate Drive. The dedication marks a major milestone for this parish community, which was founded in 2005 and celebrated its first Saturday liturgies in an area park.
"I've been heartened by the passion and energy of this parish as they have humbly toiled alongside their pastor to make this dream a reality," Vann said.
This Spanish mission-style church, which broke ground in March 2016, includes a 40-foot-tall altar piece depicting Christ's crucifixion. Two commissioned paintings of the "Risen Christ" and "The Pieta" and four icons grace the church's interior.
An 18th-century tabernacle and stained glass from the Marywood Chapel, the site of the former diocesan offices in Orange, have also been re-purposed in this church.
