Catholic Charities Leaders Call for Change
This week, Monsignor Michael M. Boland, President & CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, contributed a passionate letter to the editor in the Chicago Tribune, calling on state officials to prioritize funding to help those in poverty, particularly through efficient and effective programs operated by nonprofit agencies like Catholic Charities. Earlier this month, Brian Corbin, Senior Vice President of Social Policy for CCUSA, called for a new conversation and new approach to address poverty more holistically in a speech at the launch of a new initiative from Catholic Charities Fort Worth. The Padua Pilot, being pioneered by Catholic Charities Fort Worth in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame’s Wilson-Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities, offers what they term “super-charged case management” in an effort to break down whatever barriers are keeping families in need from achieving self-sufficiency.
