Although the nation continues to measure poverty based solely on a family’s income, Catholic Charities USA recognizes that helping individuals reach their full potential requires a more holistic approach. CCUSA has emphasized five areas of well-being that must be addressed: education and workforce training, family economic security, food security, health, and housing. Therefore, we focus our policy and advocacy efforts to draw attention to these areas, as well as to vulnerable populations in need.
Guided by the principles of Catholic social teaching, the work and policy priorities of Catholic Charities embody the Church’s call to live in solidarity with those who are poor, to affirm each person’s human dignity, and to enhance the common good. Catholic Charities acts in accord with the principle of subsidiarity, aware that social issues are best addressed at the most local level.
