On November 6th, Connecticut needs you to head to the polls and vote “yes” on the Transportation Revenue Lockbox Amendment. The measure would require that all revenue placed in the state's Special Transportation Fund (STF) be used for transportation purposes, including the payment of transportation-related debts. The state legislature would be prohibited from spending the fund on non-transportation purposes. The STF is funded by the motor fuels tax, motor carrier road tax, petroleum products gross earnings tax, certain motor vehicle receipts and fees, motor vehicle-related fines, and a portion of state sales tax.
Similiar ballot measures have recently been passed in over 30 states in recent yearsa, which has included: Maryland, Wisconsin, Illinois, New Jersey and Louisiana.
Remember, a “yes” vote on November 6th will ensure that Connecticut’s State Transportation Funds will be used for what they were intended for: bridge & road improvements.
