Senators Durbin and Heitkamp Reintroduce Trauma-informed Legislation

This week, Senators Heidi Heitkamp (D- N.D.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) introduced the Trauma Informed Care for Children and Families Act, which is an improved version of the bill they introduced last December. This comprehensive legislation addresses and mitigates the detrimental impact that exposure to trauma can have on children and families. According to Senator Heitkamp’s press release, “This bill would help identify best practices to reduce the impacts of trauma to help make sure children and families no longer suffer in silence—and instead are supported by a network of informed law enforcement officers, health care workers, and tribal and education specialists who recognize and treat exposure to trauma as the clinical condition that it is.”
