Help Protect Access to Complex Rehab Technology


Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) includes specialized wheelchairs, seating systems, and other adaptive equipment such as standing devices and gait trainers.  These individually configured products are used by people with high level disabilities such as ALS, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury to meet their unique medical needs, reduce their medical complications and costs, and maximize their function and independence.

Currently, Congress is considering legislation that would protect access to Complex Rehab Technology. Follow the instructions below to contact your Members of Congress and secure their support to protect access for people with disabilities. 

Protect CRT Manual Wheelchair Accessories
Pass H.R. 3730

Legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives (bill number H.R. 3730) to stop CMS’ application of Medicare Competitive Bid pricing to accessories used with CRT manual wheelchairs. Passage of this bill will allow people with significant disabilities who use CRT manual wheelchairs to have the same access to CRT accessories as those using CRT power wheelchairs.

The video also highlights current challenges and changes needed to ensure adequate access.

Get a Separate Benefit Category for CRT
Pass H.R. 750

CRT needs to be recognized separate from standard Durable Medical Equipment (DME) in order to improve and protect access for people with disabilities. Legislation has been reintroduced in the House of Representatives (bill number H.R. 750) to establish a separate benefit category for CRT within the Medicare program and provide needed policy and safeguard improvements.
